This image depicts Murasaki Shikibu – often thought of as the world’s first novelist. She wrote the ‘Tale of Genji’ in 11th-century Japan. The tale was still popular in the 1800s when this print was made by Utagawa Kunisada.
«—¿Què faria si no llegís? —digué ella, girant els ulls cap els geranis i l’aufàbrega.»
